Small steps

I had to take small steps going uphill. It is not my strongest point climbing up. And taking small steps asks for my absolute concentration. I don't like to take small steps. Not climbing up a hill and not in life too. But it is not always needed to take big steps. By taking small steps you will get time to adapt, to grow stronger. So one step at a time. One foot before the other.

It is not easy to take those small steps at first, but it is very important to do so. It will cost you less energy and motivation to take those small steps. Besides that it doesn't cost much confidence to do. It's easier, and by taking those sometimes tiny steps your ultimate goal is getting closer. You can navigate easier and change direction without spending too much energy.

When you take giant and huge steps at a time your progress is fast. But did you go in the right direction? Did you maybe take a wrong turn? With bad luck, you ran into a dead-end. It will take time to get back on track, more steps need to be taken to reach your goal. You have wasted precious energy by doing so.

I did that a few times last year, taking those big steps. Not thinking, full throttle, straight ahead. I ended up with a very small amount of water, while I still had an evening, a night and half a day walking ahead of me. In 35C heat that was. Or the time I bounced around in the Bulgarian mountains, not paying any attention. I climbed the wrong mountain, had to backtrack a long way to get back on the trail. I walked too fast sometimes, overheating my body and feeling shit for a couple of days.

We are used doing things in a hurry. Time is money, progress needs to be done fast. But that doesn't always work. It certainly doesn't work if you want change. If you want to grow and change things in your life you need to take small steps at a time. If it's time for drastic change or you are in some ways confronted with a huge problem, keep taking those small steps. You will keep that view over the situation. You might notice that certain things are still ok, that some things still work fine for you. That will give positive energy.

If you take those small steps at a time, you will create new ideas on the way and gain more motivation to continue forward!
